Discreet Testing & Advice
You don’t have to be in a relationship or show signs of infection to book a test. Whether it’s part of your routine health checks or prompted by something more specific, your GP will explain which tests are recommended and how they’re done. Depending on the situation, this might involve a urine test, blood test, or a swab—none of which takes long, and most results come back quickly.
If you’re nervous, that’s completely normal. We’re here to make sure you feel supported, informed, and never rushed into decisions. We also take time to answer any questions you have, from what to expect with results to how often to test and what treatment involves if needed. Should you test positive, we’ll guide you through the next steps with calm, practical care—no judgement, just support.
There’s No Shame in Getting Tested
Sexual health is part of overall health, and getting tested should be treated like any other routine check-up. Whether it’s your first time testing or part of your regular care, there’s absolutely no judgement—just practical, respectful support. We understand that stigma can be a barrier, which is why we make the process as comfortable and straightforward as possible.
Conversations around STI testing don’t have to be awkward. The One Stop Medical team is here to listen and offer honest advice in a private, compassionate setting. You won’t be asked invasive questions unless it’s relevant to your care, and you’ll never be rushed or pressured. We want you to leave your appointment feeling reassured, informed, and in control of your health.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I get tested for STIs?
How often you get tested depends on your personal situation—things like your sexual activity, number of partners, whether you use protection, and any symptoms you’ve noticed. A general guide is to test every 6 to 12 months if you're sexually active with new or multiple partners. It’s also recommended after unprotected sex, or if a partner tests positive. If you're unsure, your GP can help you decide what’s best based on your health and lifestyle.
Will my STI results be kept private?
Yes. STI testing is confidential, and your results will only be discussed with you. If you’re under 18, you can usually still access testing privately if the doctor believes you understand the information and consequences. This is known as being a "mature minor". If a result comes back positive, your GP will talk you through treatment options and, if needed, support you in letting partners know in a safe and respectful way. Your health and privacy are always prioritised.
What happens if I test positive for an STI?
If your test comes back positive, your GP will explain exactly what the result means and outline your treatment options. Many STIs can be treated with a short course of antibiotics or managed effectively with the right medical care. Your doctor will also talk about how to prevent spreading the infection and whether follow-up testing is needed. You’ll be supported throughout the process, with space to ask questions and talk about any concerns you have.
