Children's GP
20+
Years
Experience.
As a busy GP practice, we do have to prioritise appointments for sick children, so if you're concerned about your child's health, give us a call and speak to one of the welcoming receptionists. If they feel your child needs to be seen immediately, they will do their best to arrange a same-day appointment with one of the GPs.
However, we also offer more routine checkups for children of all ages, including developmental assessments and vaccinations, which we will try to schedule at a time that is convenient for you. For older children, we even provide services such as mental health support and sexual health advice and care. So, no matter your child's health needs, One Stop Medical is here to help.
Health Assessments
Whether it's a routine appointment to monitor your child's health and well-being or a same-day examination to help uncover the cause of a new illness or injury, at One Stop Medical, we are determined to provide the most thorough and effective care possible for your children.
If you're concerned about your child's weight, diet, allergies, vaccinations and more, don't hesitate to book an appointment.
Growth And Development Assessments
We also offer development checks which have to be carried out at specific ages: after your baby turns one, these are usually done at 18 months, and four years. During these appointments, we'll assess your child's growth and development to make sure they're on track for their age.
As part of this, the nurses will check their height and weight to see if there are any growth deficiencies we should be concerned about. The doctors will be looking at their fine motor skills, cognitive development and communication skills. For example, can they point to objects and maintain eye contact. Are they talking at their appropriate age level? By assessing these factors, they can determine if your child could benefit from extra support.
Vaccinations
At One Stop Medical, we advise that your child receives all of the recommended routine childhood vaccinations, including whooping cough, measles, and meningococcal disease.
If you have any concerns about vaccinations, we are happy to talk to you about these to put your mind at ease. We can also administrate your child's immunisations at the practice.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often should children see a GP for a check-up?
Routine check-ups are important throughout childhood, not just when a child is unwell. Infants and toddlers often have scheduled visits for immunisations and developmental reviews. As children grow, a yearly check-up is a good way to monitor overall health, catch emerging concerns early and build a positive relationship with a trusted GP. These visits can cover everything from physical development and nutrition to mental wellbeing and sleep habits.
What should you do if your child has recurring ear infections?
Recurring ear infections are common in young children and may cause discomfort, hearing issues or sleep disruption. If infections occur frequently or don’t resolve fully with treatment, a GP may assess the need for further testing or referral to an ENT specialist. Management can include watchful waiting, antibiotics, or in some cases, discussion of surgical options like grommets. Keeping track of symptoms and seeking early advice helps prevent long-term effects on hearing and speech development.
How can a GP support a child’s mental wellbeing?
GPs play an important role in early mental health support for children. They can help identify signs of anxiety, low mood, behavioural changes or social difficulties, and work with families to explore appropriate next steps. This may include referrals to psychologists, mental health plans, or guidance on parenting strategies and school support. Building trust with a regular GP gives children a safe space to talk and helps normalise mental health care from a young age.
